Harry Marshall Obituary

Visit the Moody Funeral Services Inc - Mount Airy website to view the full obituary.

Harry Garland Marshall, age 75, died October 26, 2025, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Harry was born on December 20, 1949, to Henry and Bessie Dollyhigh Marshall of Mount Airy.

He is survived by son Samuel Travis Marshall and daughter Jennifer Marshall Aparicio and their mother Sandra S. Williams; grandsons Jordan and Boone Aparicio; granddaughters Bella Aparicio and Emma Kay Marshall, all of Mount Airy; sisters Sandy Marshall of Whitsett; Ann Marshall Smith of Gulfport, MS; and Jean Marshall Beamer (Jerry) of Winston-Salem; brother John C. Marshall (Alison York) of Hickory; 11 nieces and nephews and special friends Ginger Collins and Jackie Tebben along with many precious cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bessie Marshall, of Mount Airy; brother-in-law E. Frank Smith of Gulfport, MS; and his mother’s second husband, Cecil McMillion of Dobson.

Harry was a Vietnam veteran and served two tours of duty with the U.S. Navy SeaBees construction battalion. Harry’s career focused on fixing, inventing, and creating at Burton Electric Signs and Tyco Electronics. Alongside his work, Harry was a lifelong member of White Plains Friends Meeting, serving in many capacities, including volunteering with the children’s church and managing the use and upkeep of the church cemetery. Harry was also an active participant in Jude 22/Surry Jail Ministries, providing spiritual support to inmates in local prisons. If asked what he was most proud of, he would say not proud of, but most moved by, his four trips to Gulfport, MS, to assist with hurricane relief following Hurricane Katrina.

Harry’s last and strongest desire was that his illness, suffering, and ultimate death would be a witness to God’s grace. His family and friends can testify to the success of that desire. ‘Don’t waste your cancer’ was scribbled in many visible places for all to see, including his hand.

Harry was a doer, fixer, intellectual, thinker, and a pair of Jesus’ hands in a community of friends.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and to all of the sitters from American Healthcare Services. Thanks to Jude 22/Surry Jail Ministries & Butch Spurlin. Very special thanks to his minister, Dusty Ball, and to all of his church family, neighbors and cousins, especially those who sat with him recently.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 12pm at White Plains Friends Meeting with service conducted by Rev. Dusty Ball. The family will receive friends from 11am until the time for the service at the church. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors by VFW Post #2019 of Mt. Airy and VFW Post #9436 of Pilot Mountain..

Memorials in Harry’s honor can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, White Plains Friends Meeting, and Jude 22/Surry Jail Ministries.
