Virginia Rivera Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lanier Funeral and Cremation Services on Mar. 18, 2026.
Virginia Calde Rivera, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 76. Born on April 21, 1949, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, to Francisco Calde Rodriguez and Audalina Gonzalez, Virginia's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family bonds.
Virginia's journey through life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family and her faith. She was a cherished member of the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal, where her commitment to her community was evident in her active participation and service. Her love for God was as profound as her love for her family, and it was this faith that guided her through life's many challenges and joys.
Her marriage to Antonio Mercado was a beautiful partnership that flourished over 51 years, a testament to their shared values and enduring love. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Denise Mercado Carde and Jose Mercado, who were the pride of Virginia's life. She was a guiding star to her grandchildren, Yennyliz Malave, Jonathan Mercado, Michael Malave, and Mariangeliz Malave, and she cherished every moment spent with her great-grandchildren, Amira and Evangelyz.
Virginia was the heart of a large and loving family. She was predeceased by her parents, Francisco and Audalina, and her siblings Carmen Carde, Francisco A. Carde, and Jose F. Carde. Her memory will be honored and kept alive by her surviving siblings, Nilda Medina, Maria Carde, Jose A. Carde, Gilberto Carde, Robert Carde, Rafael Carde, Sylvia Medina, Maribel Carde, and Angel Carde, who will miss her deeply.
A talented cook, Virginia found joy in the simple act of preparing meals that brought her family together around the table. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and the delicious aromas of her beloved cuisine. It was in these moments that the true essence of Virginia's spirit shone brightest, as she nourished not only the bodies but the souls of those she loved.
As we bid farewell to Virginia Calde Rivera, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that has undoubtedly found its place in heaven. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed by her presence.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Lanier Funeral and Cremation Services, 717 Griffin Road Lakeland, FL 33805.
