Virginia was born on November 27, 1928, in Polk County to Walter and Rose Lind Nyberg, the 7th of 11 children. She attended District 44 country school through eighth grade and graduated from Polk High School in 1946. After attending business school, Ginny moved to Chicago and worked as a secretary. She returned to Lincoln in 1949 until her marriage to Dean "Sam" Samuelson January 27, 1951. They moved to the farm west of Polk where they lived and raised their six children until Dean passed away in April 2010. Ginny remained on the farm until March of 2021 when she moved to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Ginny received Christ as her personal savior at the age of twelve through special meetings with Dr. Theodore Epp. A lifelong member of the Polk Evangelical Free Church, she sang in the choir, served as Sunday school teacher, various offices in Women's ministries, and as church secretary. Ginny enjoyed reading, playing games, watching her grandchildren's activities, and singing, especially in the annual Polk Community Chorus and the Crescendos, a women's singing group in Polk. She was a great cook! She and Sam especially loved the fun times with their children growing up on the farm and going on summer vacations with them. Ginny babysat for some of her grandchildren and loved spending time with all of their grandchildren. In her later years, she was a faithful member of the Polk Senior Center. Her faith and family were the most important parts of her life.
Ginny is survived by her children - Bruce and Debra Samuelson of St. Joseph, Mo.; Brad and Janet Samuelson of Arlington, Texas; Janette and Rod Roth of Beaver Crossing; Cheryl and Doug Anderson of Stromsburg, Gail and Rod Hanquist of Polk and Brian and Audrey Samuelson of Polk; grandchildren - Amy and Chris Falkner of Gardner, Kan.; Alan and Becky Samuelson of Atchison, Kan.; Danielle Samuelson and Blake and Katie Samuelson, of Arlington, Texas; Kathleen and Jake Krieger of Lincoln, Kelsey and Drew Hackett of Omaha; Morgan Anderson of Sperry, Iowa; Brent Hanquist and Michelle Williams of Bettendorf, Iowa; Brenda and Guy Joly of Shoreview, Minn.; Brandon and Rachel Hanquist of Perry, Mo.; Isaac and Megan Samuelson of Stromsburg; Luke and Grace Samuelson of Aurora; and Kendra Samuelson and fiancé Tom Walter of Omaha; great-grandchildren - Mason, Bentley, Adeline, Annabelle, Asher, Ramsey, Berkeley, Cora, Crowley, Jordan, Payton, Tanner, Dawson, Elliot, Marcus, Carson, Ellie, Nora, Nathan, Natalie, Lila, Joelle, Maverick, Harper, and one great-granddaughter in heaven, Brianna. Ginny has three surviving sisters-in-law - Marilyn, Marilyn and Jane. Ginny was preceded in death by her loving husband Dean; her parents; brothers, Duane, John, Ron, Don and Dale; sisters, Elaine, Doris, Rose Marie, Margaret and Shirley.
