Virginia A. "Ginny" (Fischer) Soucy, 93, of Coventry, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 5, 2025. Born on December 1, 1932, in Cranston, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Annie (Connell) Fischer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raoul A. Soucy.
A woman of remarkable energy, conviction, and purpose, Ginny devoted much of her life to serving the town she loved. A proud resident of Coventry, she worked tirelessly to strengthen her community and protect the rights and values she held dear as an American citizen. Her commitment to civic duty was unwavering. She served on the Coventry Town Council, was a dedicated member of the Coventry Zoning Board, and played an important role as a delegate at the Rhode Island Constitutional Convention. She was also a past member of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association and an active member of the Coventry Republican Town Committee.
Ginny's passion for history and preservation led her to serve as Past President of the Coventry Historical Society, as well as a member of the Cranston Historical Society. She was also a proud member of the Eastern Star, Adah Chapter. A woman grounded in her faith, Ginny served as a lay reader at Christ Episcopal Church-where she nurtured her spiritual life and lived out her deep devotion to God.
Ginny leaves behind her two loving children: Virginia A. Newton and her husband, William, of Coventry and Carl J. Soucy and his wife, Jennifer, of Coventry, three grandchildren: Tiffany Newton, Brittany LaFleur her husband Dennis and Brian Soucy
All services will be private. Ginny will be laid to rest beside her husband on the family farm, a place of deep meaning and lasting memories.
