Virginia Stevens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral Home - Harker Heights on Feb. 24, 2026.
Virginia Kay Stevens

November 10, 1945 – February 21, 2026

Virginia Kay Stevens, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on February 21, 2026.

Virginia was born on November 10, 1945, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Willard Burris and Faye Ripey. She grew up and attended school in Oroville, California where she formed many lifelong memories and friendships. Throughout her life, she lived in Tacoma and Puyallup Washington and later made her home in Killeen, Texas.

Virginia was married to the love of her life, Jimmy Stevens, for over 50 wonderful years until his passing in 2016. Together they built a life centered around family, friends & love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Burris and Faye Ripey; her beloved husband, Jimmy Stevens; her sister, Joan Hackett; her daughter, Mardale Stevens; and her grandson, Austin Stevens.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Curtis Stevens; Christa Stevens; and Tammy Stevens Maines. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kelsey Hoxsey, Shelbie Raper, Emily Stevens-Gutierrez, Curtis Stevens, Kyra West-Paez, Dylan Stevens, and Colton Stevens, as well as eight cherished great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

Virginia spent many years working as a beautician before joining the Killeen ISD Transportation Department. She truly loved driving her school bus and caring for the children on her route, continuing until her well-earned retirement. Her warm smile and kind spirit touched countless lives.

She was the most amazing, kind, and thoughtful woman with the biggest heart. Virginia loved helping others and treasured time spent with family. She was incredibly talented and fearless when it came to learning-willing to try anything at least once. She enjoyed going for a drive and seeing new places, cooking delicious meals, and her famous desserts, sewing, playing the piano, and gathering with friends and family. Her home was always a place of comfort, laughter, and love.

A Memorial and Viewing will be held on February 26, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. at Killeen Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 3516 Lake Road, Killeen, Texas 76543.

Virginia's love, strength, and gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
