Virginia Nizamoff Surso, age 83, of Syracuse, Indiana (formerly of Speedway) passed away on Sunday November 5th, 2023, surrounded by her family. Virginia was lovingly known to many as Ginnie, Dory, Dede, and Country Baba. She is survived by her brother Nicholas (Darlene) Nizamoff of Bloomington, sister-in-law Valetina Subris of Indianapolis, her son Christopher (Liane) Brazis of Almont, Michigan, her daughter Elizabeth (Andy) Stevens of Syracuse, her step-daughter Kathryn Surso & Jon Rodriguez of San Fransisco, her grandchildren Mark, Lisa (Randy), Andrew, Benjamin, Adam, & Brendan, and her nieces & nephews Eric (Jackie) Jenna & Nicholas, Nancy (Jimmy) Skylar & Miles, Julie (Doug), Andra (Buck), Ed (Judy) Anna & John, and her close friend & companion Phil Rodriguez.

Virginia was preceded in death by her father & mother, Christo & Slavka Nizamoff (Indianapolis), and her late husband Michael P. Surso of Syracuse, IN.

Virginia graduated from Butler University with Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. She reported & wrote feature articles for the West Side Messenger (Indianapolis) & was awarded a NESCO CASPER. She eventually followed in her father’s footsteps to become editor of The Macedonian Tribune (Fort Wayne), a position she held dear to her heart and excelled at for many years, helping the MPO (Macedonian Patriotic Organization) grow & thrive in the USA & Canada. Virginia’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved people & took a personal interest in all her family member’s lives & activities. She especially enjoyed spending the holidays with her family & traveled thousands of miles annually attending family reunions & family functions & MPO meetings and MPO conventions. She cherished her personal friendships with people from all over the world, including senators, ambassadors, and prime ministers she knew on a first-name basis. In her down-time she enjoyed watching movies, reading a good book, keeping up on current events, playing bridge, euchre, & board games. She possessed a keen intellect and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Titus Funeral Home of Syracuse is entrusted with the care of Virginia and her family. Friends and family may gather for visitation there, 1001 S. Huntington Street, from 3:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, November 10, 2023. On Saturday, November 11, 2023 a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 6941 East Waco Dr. Syracuse, IN 46567 at 10:00 am with doors opening an hour prior.
