Mrs. Virginia "Jennie" Mitchell Sylvester, 91, widow of Willam Theodore Sylvester, passed away on August 26, 2025 at Union Post Acute.

Jennie was born September 7, 1933, a daughter of the late Sam "Buddy" Mitchell and Ruby Parks Mitchell. She worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company in Orlando, FL for several years and later as a switchboard operator at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Jennie was a active member of New Life Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a Sunday School Nursery worker, Chairperson of the Bereavement Committee, a member of the Hostess Committee, Prayer Chain Coordinator, and a former choir member. Jennie enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.

Survivors include her sister, Ann Mitchell Lawson and her husband Rodney, stepdaughter, Wanda Holmes and her husband, Claude of Orlando, FL, nieces, Robin Nance and husband, Jonathan of Jonesville, Donna Mitchell of Union, great nephew, James Peyton Nance of Jonesville, and a special young friend who she loved and cared for, Cal Kelley. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Marion Donald Mitchell and a niece, Vicki Mitchell Crawford.

Funeral service will be held at New Life Baptist Church on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Ron Culbertson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow the services at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dean Brown, Roy Puckett, Paul Kelley, Cal Kelley, Ned Lancaster and Eddie Wayne Davis.

Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 502 Meansville Rd., Union, SC 29379.

The family is at the home of Ann and Rodney Lawson, 148 Seigler Rd., Union, SC.
