Vito Ernesto Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. on Jan. 9, 2026.
Vito Ernesto, a devoted family man, proud New Yorker, and dedicated public servant, passed away on January 9 2026 at the age of 96, surrounded by love.

Born on February 3, 1929 in Williamsburg Brooklyn, Vito was deeply proud of his Italian heritage, which shaped his values of hard work, loyalty, and family. Those values guided him throughout his life, especially during his years of service as a New York City, police officer. He wore the badge with honor and integrity, dedicating himself to protecting others and serving his community with quiet strength and commitment.

Outside of his career, Vito found peace in the outdoors. He was an avid vegetable gardener, who took great pride, in tending his garden, patiently nurturing, each plant and generously sharing his harvest with family and friends. He also loved Hunting, valuing the discipline, tradition, and time spent in nature that it brought him. Whether in the garden or in the woods, he appreciated self reliance, and the simple rewards of effort and patience.

Above all else, Vito cherished his family. He was the steady presence, reliable, thoughtful, and deeply caring. His love was shown not through grand gestures, but through consistency, guidance and always being there when it mattered most.

Vito is survived by his four children Robert, Maria, Carolyn, and Patricia. He has nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Camille and grandson, Matthew.
