We are sad to announce that on October 8, 2025 we said goodbye to our mom, grandma and great grandma, Vivian Allston Barnard. She was 92 years old and resided in Annandale, Virginia. For more than 65 years, she was the loving wife of Robert Lee Barnard (predeceased).

Vivian was born in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the daughter of Marie Porter Allston and Elwood Allston. She graduated from James Madison University and obtained a bachelor's degree in teaching. On campus she was president of the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity. Her career began as a teacher and then transitioned to family life having five children. Later, she reentered private industry for 17 years in Human Resources.

Vivian loved to play tennis and spent many hours on the tennis court with her husband Bob. She played until she was 85. She also loved to play bridge, card games and board games with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children, Steve Barnard, Donna Charapich, Barb Whitacre, David Barnard and Susie (Joe) Orthman . Her grandchildren, Chris (Cassie) Charapich, Julie (Sam) Walther, Lauren (John) Delekto, Bobby (Jasmine) Whitacre and Emma Orthman. Her great grandchildren, Charlotte, Rory, Andrew, Ben, Arthur and Luke. She was predeceased by her parents Marie Allston and Elwood Allston, husband, Robert Lee Barnard and son-in-law, Bobby Whitacre.

Vivian will truly be missed. We know she and my dad are together again for eternity.

The family will observe a private ceremony.
