Vivian Lamb Obituary
Vivian June Lamb (1927-2025), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law was born in the year that Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic. Not surprisingly, she was a world traveler who saw almost every country on the European and North American continents plus the Caribbean islands. Her father and grandparents were Italian immigrants, and she was very proud of her Italian heritage. She grew up poor during the Depression Era. Nevertheless, she won a "Shirley Temple Lookalike Contest" and got her photo in all the Pittsburgh newspapers. During her teens she received free fencing lessons from Gene Kelly's sister, Harriet. Vivian graduated near the top of her class at Peabody High School where she won a dress design award with her sewing partner, famed African American artist, Moselle Thompson. In 1945 she was voted the "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi". She became a successful saleswoman, having worked for Woolworths, Kaufmanns, L.C. Keepsakes, and the Mary Holland Company. Her son, Kevin followed her in a successful sales career. A high school volleyball player, Vivian was a great Pittsburgh sports fan. Her uncles were professional boxers, Carmen and Tony Notch, and for decades she never missed a Steeler or Pitt basketball home game. She loved the Villanova Wildcats too where her son and granddaughter played on nationally ranked football and basketball teams. "Viv" enjoyed singing Harry Belafonte songs in the car with her grandchildren and was famous for her pasta, meatballs, and "Grandma's Chocolate Cake". In 1962, she astounded the men who ran the DeHaven Little League Baseball Organization by applying for a manager's position (the first woman to ever do so). They turned her down but not before she made her point about the manager's kid getting the most playing time regardless of skill. She was motivated to overcome obstacles, and she motivated others to do the same /even at the age of nearly 98). Vivian Lamb was the daughter of the late Louis Meola and Mary Annunziata Meola (Pernatozzi), the sister of Frances D'ambrosio (Carmen), and the spouse of the late Joseph J. Lamb. She is survived by her sons Dr. Michael and Kevin Lamb, her daughter-in-law Dr. Kathleen M. Lamb (Garver), four grandchildren (Joseph Lamb, Mary Lamb, Frances Urman (Joseph), Kathleen Cantrell (Matthew), six great- grandchildren (Hope, Noah, Evan, June, Charlie, and Josephine) plus her large extended family of cherished cousins. Vivian was truly one of a kind. She will be missed tremendously.

My grandma would have done anything for me. She would have given me the shirt off her back to help me out. She didn´t have much, but what she gave, she gave in abundance. She always supported me whether it was making a Friday night dinner of pizza, pasta and Uncle K´s fresh caught fish (and if we were lucky fried cauliflower) or attending all of our sporting events from crew to basketball, football, baseball and volleyball. Whether she was cooking out of love or watching a game to connect, she always took a genuine interest in our relationship. And that´s the main thing I remember about my grandmother - she was genuine. She was true to herself. In a world of so many mixed signals, this is becoming harder and harder to achieve, but she did it. My grandmother always spoke her truth. I only hope I can do the same.

Dad and Uncle K -

Grandma was truly one of a kind. One of the most resilient women, she taught me to never give up and the value of grit and dedication. She always supported us in whatever we did - even taking the train with her cousins all the way to Philly to watch my college basketball team. It was pretty unique to have a grandmother who truly loved sports! I can remember going to Steeler games with her in the snow haha. I always loved hearing stories of her travels and maybe that´s where I got my desire to see the world. I´ll never forget listening to "Day-O" with her on repeat in her car and of course our sleepovers watching "Murder She Wrote". She may not be with us physically - but I´ll cherish these and so many other memories forever (especially her telling of climbing the Rock of Gibraltar most recently - we were laughing so hard).

With love,
Fran

Michael & Kevin,
Sending sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the entire Lamb family and all who loved Vivian for the profound loss of your mother. Truly one-of-a-kind, the mold was broke when God made Vivian as there will never be another like her. She made the passions of her sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren her own passions with enthusiasm that was to be admired. We feel blessed to have known her as Granny V became an extended part of our family. Thank you for sharing her with us. May perpetual light shine upon her. Soar high with the angels, Vivian.

Tears of sadness; tears of joy!
Oh we will miss that devilish smile telling stories about Micheal, her grandchildren or a bus trip to a casino
We will miss her Quiet confidence. Like Theodore Roosevelt she walked softly and carried a big stick. She took advice under counsel but made her own decisions
We will miss her humility and compassion. She was always patient and unassuming. In good times and bad, she always managed to share the Peace of Christ. We hope you will carry that Peace with you always while remembering her life well lived!

Dear Michael and Kevin,
Mom was a truly remarkable lady. She was a wonderful mother in law, always ready to help in any way. From the moment I met her, she treated me like her favorite daughter! I will really miss her but she will forever be in our hearts!!
Love, Kathy
