Vivian Hatch Mitchell, age 97, passed away on January 10, 2026.
Vivian was born in
Koosharem, UT, on November 4, 1928, to Vernaldo and Elnora Hatch. Vivian was blessed to have 3 brothers and 2 sisters who preceded her in death. She was especially close to her older sister, Leila, with whom she shared a birthday.
Vivian had a wonderful childhood in
Koosharem, UT. She lived in a small frame home and learned to work at an early age. She was a good student and loved to read, especially Shakespeare and Nancy Drew Mysteries. She continued her love of reading throughout her life.
Vivian graduated from Richfield High School and then attended college at BAC in
Cedar City, UT, and Brigham Young University in
Provo, UT. When she was a young mother with two small daughters, she returned to college and graduated, with honors, from the College of Southern Utah in
Cedar City, UT, with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
After graduating from college, Vivian taught at Parowan Elementary for two years, then was a stay-at-home mom during most of her children's growing-up years. When her youngest child was in high school, she went back to work as an aide at Parowan High School. In 1976, Vivian left the education field and obtained a job with Parowan City as the Parowan City Treasurer, which she held until her retirement in 1994.
Vivian met her future husband, Boyd, in 1950 and they were married on August 5, 1950. They were sealed one year later in the St. George Temple on October 19, 1951.
Boyd & Vivian made their home in
Parowan, UT where they lived together for 62 years until Boyd's passing in 2013.
Boyd & Vivian loved to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoyed taking their trailer to camp in the cool, peaceful mountains close to their home.
Vivian was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. Her favorite church service was serving with Boyd as a temple worker at the St. George LDS temple for 14 years. Vivian loved the scriptures and studiously read the Book of Mormon for 30 minutes every day.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd, her daughter, Rhonda, all of her siblings, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Mona (son-in-law, Calvin), son, David (daughter-in-law, Lisa), 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 am on Friday, January 16th, 2026 in the Parowan Third Ward Relief Society Room. A private family service will be held following the viewing. Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Vivian's wonderful neighbors, Don & Linda Lowder, for their willingness to help Vivian whenever she needed them, and also to Kristin Robinson for all the many, many acts of loving service she gave to Vivian, the staff at Three Peaks Assisted Living and Zion's Way Hospice.
