Vondie Evelyn McKinlay

Vondie "Dee" Evelyn McKinlay, 82, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025.
Born on July 15, 1943, in Conway, South Carolina to Homer and Nancy Shelly. She lived there until she moved to Jacksonville, Florida in the early 1960's. She then met her love Dudley "Pete" McKinlay, Jr. They were married 52 years until the Lord called Pete home in 2017.
Vondie retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 1994 and later worked part time at Ortega Methodist Church with the Pre-K department. She loved children.
She was always willing to lend a helping hand, share a warm smile, or listen with an open heart. Vondie loved her family and created many memories over the years. She loved dancing the night away with Pete. She enjoyed being near the water, spending time at the condo in Daytona and taking family camping trips.
Vondie was one of nine children, 7 sisters: Bealah, Viola, Jeannett, Peggy, Hilda, Mary, Diane and 1 brother Charles.
She is survived by her son Dudley McKinlay, III (Wendy), 2 sisters; Mary and Diane (John), 3 grandchildren; Kayla (Mark), Hannah (Brian) and Megan (Anthony), 4 great grandchildren; Norah, Ezra, Daisy and Oliver. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as those who loved her dearly. She will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched over the years.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for their kindness and compassion and in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in Vondie's honor.
Funeral services will be at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Boulevard Orange Park, Florida 32073 on Saturday, January 10, 2026 with a visitation at 9:00 AM and service to follow at 10:00 AM in the chapel followed by graveside.
