Mr. Johnnie Wadell Chaffin, age 82, of Tallapoosa, GA, previously of Wedowee, AL, passed away January 30, 2025. He was born April 23, 1942 in Cleburne County, AL to the late Hattie Lee Ivy Gentry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Chaffin.
Wadell graduated with the Tallapoosa High School Class of 1960. During his junior and senior year he was named as a Georgia All State Tackle, solidifying his love of the game. He worked at Dixie Steel as a quality control supervisor until its closing and then worked as a mobile construction supervisor for the Georgia Department of Corrections. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with Bud Jones in the taxidermy shop and spending time by the lake and on their farm.
Wadell is survived by his children and their spouses, Amy and Candi Chaffin, Wade and Shannon Chaffin, all of Tallapoosa, and Wesley and Paige Chaffin, of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Chloe Chaffin, Beau Chaffin, Lucy Chaffin, John Chaffin, Ben Chaffin, Abbie Chaffin, Isabella Chaffin, Gage Chaffin, Elle Brittain, and Madison Brittain; and great grandchildren, Roean Sams, Bohdie Sams, Annie Ridley, Maggie Collins, Jack Chaffin, and Winter Chaffin.
Aquamation services will be provided by Miller Funeral Home and a private inurnment will take place in Hollywood Cemetery.
