Wallace Giglio Obituary

Wallace William Giglio passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, after a well-lived life shared with his love, his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Marie (Gray).

Born to Peter and Catherine Giglio on August 4, 1934, he was raised in Torrington, Connecticut. He attended Fork Union Military Academy, then studied at Hampden-Sydney College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. In the midst of his studies, he served in the U.S. Army as an H-34 helicopter crew chief in Germany.

Wally and Charlotte wed in Richmond, Virginia, on a lovely afternoon in June of 1965. They taught together there for two years before moving to Purcellville. Here, they raised their beloved sons, Patrick and Christopher, built lifelong friendships, and became staples in the community.

Wally was dedicated to the well-being of all children, not just his own. He was a respected and honored intermediate science teacher for 30 years, a compassionate youth sports coach, and President of the Upper Loudoun Little League. He truly believed, "It is the duty and obligation of this entire community to produce a well-rounded, capable individual. By reaching out to children with sincere feelings of love, understanding, and concern, this can be accomplished."

His service extended to work on the Purcellville Preservation Committee, the Advisory Board of the Loudoun Valley Community Center, and the renovation of the Purcellville Train Station. He personified the term "good neighbor," always ready to help from a place of genuine care for others.

In retirement, he was happiest with a paintbrush or woodworking tools in hand. He loved spending time by a pond holding a fishing pole, especially if one of his grandchildren-Meg, Cam, Alex, Ryan, or Charlie-was beside him. He loved them dearly, along with their mothers, Dawn (Pat) and Catherine (Chris).

He leaves us with many good reminders: respect others, play often, never turn down a potato chip, and always say yes to anything chocolate, and of course, "mess with the bull, you'll get the horns." Most of all, he leaves a legacy of love, gentleness, and kindness.

The twinkle in his blue eyes, like the warmth in his heart, always full of love and a hint of mischief, will be deeply missed.

A private family burial will take place later this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice. blueridgehospice.org Wallace William Giglio
