To The Family of Wally Bell: While I did not know your relative personally I do want to extend my sympathies to all of you. As a former umpire myself, (never made it to the Major Leagues), I always "scout" the umpires ball/strike zones as well as their positioning on the field. May God be with all of you.

Please accept my condolence and heartfelt prayers for the loss of Wally. When someone we love dies naturally we look for comfort, (2 Cor.1:3) says that God is the God of all comfort. It is my hope all of you will find encouragement knowing also that our loving Creator comfort all who mourns the loss of their love ones (Isaiah 61:1, 2).

Wally and I were in the 1984 umpiring school instructed by Joe Brinkmanship. Wally was a hard worker In the minors that landed him a job in the majors. I watched Wally work and I can say that he was one if the best major league umpires to put on the uniform. Your going to be missed my friend. R I P.

Wally was a wonderful man, and will be missed dearly. He had the ability to make everyone feel as though they were family. Our deepest sympathies to his two children. May God give you the strength to see you through this most difficult loss. The pain will never go away, but the memories and the stories will be shared for years to come. Baseball was his job, but you were his greatest joy and his proudest achievement. From our family to yours, may God Bless the entire Bell family.

As an employee at PNC Park I had the opportunity to meet Wally. I'm deeply shocked and so sorry to here of his passing. He gave me an autographed picture of him with a personal message that made laugh which is typical of the character that he was. I was proud to have known him. R.I.P. Wally.

Such a shame for a young man to be taken from us at a young age. As an amateur umpire, I truly admire and respect these men for what they do to persevere. Wally Bell did this well for 21 yr gaining utmost respect from everyone in the trade and the game. Rest in peace.
