COL Walter T. Brown Dedicated Soldier, Athlete, and Beloved Husband and Father
COL Walter T. Brown, 78, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on November 20, 2024. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Brown Jr. and Eleanor (Henderson) Brown. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ingrid (Hartmann) Brown, and his loving son, Derrick J. Brown.
A lifelong athlete, Walter excelled in football and track during his youth, and continued his passion for sports throughout his life-particularly tennis, basketball, and golf.
As a soldier in the United States Army, Walter proudly served his country for 28 years, including multiple tours overseas and deployments to both Vietnam and Desert Storm. A Distinguished Member of the Transportation Corps Regiment, he was widely respected for his leadership and commitment to excellence. His military decorations reflect his bravery and service, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, four Air Medals, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Walter was an alumnus of Hampton University and a graduate of the Command and General Staff College. He was also an active member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Theta Rho Chapter, during his time in Germany.
Germany held a special place in Walter's heart. During his first tour to Germany, he met his wife, Ingrid, and the country became a second home to him. He cherished the many years he lived there with his family, immersing himself in its culture and creating countless memories.
Walter will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his extraordinary kindness, and his ability to connect with everyone he met. He was a man of integrity, compassion, and wisdom, who left a lasting legacy for those who knew and loved him.
