Walter Olear "Buzzie" Coffey

Walter Olear "Buzzie" Coffey, age 90, passed away on February 11, 2026, at his home.

He was born March 7, 1935 in Vesuvius, VA. He was the son of the late Walter Lee and Mary Louise (Pryor) Coffey.

He attended Grottoes Elementary School, graduated from Weyers Cave High School in 1953, served 3 years in the United States Army and had a career with the United States Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster in Bridgewater.

On May 28, 1960, he married the former Peggy Cox, who survives.

Surviving are three daughters, Julie Ann and husband Christopher A. Morris, Mary Beth and husband James Shuke, and Robin Virginia and husband Mark Windsor. Also surviving are four grandsons, Matthew Eppard and wife Lindsey, Hunter Shuke and partner Wesley Howdyshell, Nicholas Shuke and fiance Emily Breeden, and Joshua Gibson and wife Liliana; great-grandchildren, Hudson Eppard, Lennon Eppard, Emma Shuke, and Lita Gibson; brothers, Eddie Ray and wife Catherine and Donald Wayne and wife Eva; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Willie Lee Gianfrancesco, Barbara Ann Coffey, and Martha Coffey Stout.

The family will receive friends between 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Monday, February 16, 2026 at the Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.

A service celebrating Walter's life will be held 2 PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Glenn Bollinger officiating. Burial will be private.
