It is with great regret that our family announces the passing of our beloved father Walter Lee "New York" David after a long battle with Cancer.
He was the picture of a gentleman with his sports jacket and shoes to match; his presence felt with his endearing stories and belly laugh.
He leaves his four daughters Rosalind Gaines Harrell, Miora David-Tatum (Sharon David-Ford), Davida David (Carol Michelle Adams), Vyera David (Flora O’Neal) and his pseudo son Jason Ford (Sharon David-Ford), as well as his bonus children Tameeka Ford, Shawdell Adams (Carol Michelle Adams), Erica Richardson (Flora O’Neal) David Kelly (Flora O’Neal), Jamal Ford(deceased). He’s mourned by his partner, Flora “Cookie” O’Neal, grandkids Kiara David, Steven “Alex” Gaines, Kianna Tatum, Jamari Harrell, Kion Tatum and Kimaya Tatum. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Kaliyah Humbert, Benjamin Gaines and Abigail Gaines, his son-in-law Aaron Harrell Jr., a host of friends and family here in Florence which became his home after leaving NY to take care of his predeceased mother Bessie Fullard.
JP and La’Vell along with all of his bowling crew helped him to make South Carolina a comfortable place to retire after 30 years as a Bridge and Tunnel Officer at the former Tri-Bourough Bridge.
Everyone who met our dad was pleased to have known him and he will be dearly remembered always.
