Walter J. Dubiel, Jr., affectionately known as “Wally,” passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 81. A cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, Wally left behind a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness.

Born on December 12, 1943, Wally was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to public service, working as a police officer in Warren from 1967 until his retirement in 1996. During his career, he took great pride in enforcing liquor laws and served as an evidence technician, ensuring the safety and well-being of his community. His commitment to law enforcement was matched by his dedication to his country, having served in the U.S. Army as part of the Big Red 1 unit while stationed in Germany, where he drove a tank.

Wally was known for his love of stories and jokes, often bringing laughter to those around him. He was passionate about various hobbies, including golfing, snowmobiling, and going up north to his cabin near Ludington. He also loved following his favorite sports teams such as the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and University of Michigan football. He created lasting memories during annual deer hunting and snowmobiling trips, taking joy in the great outdoors. Past summers were highlighted by trips to Sugar Springs, where he and his family camped and enjoyed boating. Later years were vacations at the cabin where he shared time with his grandchildren teaching them to shoot and sharing adventures "up north". He will be remembered for his love of animals, particularly his dogs, Rosie and Sassy.

Walter is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Dubiel; his sons, Daniel (Amy) Dubiel and Brian (Denise) Dubiel; and his grandchildren, Ashley Houston, Alan (Coty) Houston, Janeen (Mike Evans) Dubiel, Hayden Dubiel, Johnathan Dubiel, Justin Dubiel, Julia Feaganes and Devon Younglove. He also took delight in the presence of his great-grandchildren, Giovanni, Vincenzo, Noah, Kelsi, and Ezra. Walter was survived by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, in addition, to many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He rejoins his parents, Walter J. Dubiel Sr. and Anastasia "Nettie" Dubiel, as well as his sisters, Dolores A. (Roy) Dubiel Elzerman, Rose M. (James) Dubiel Tharrett, and Norma (Edwin) Dubiel Baker, who predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers Wally's family request that a donation be made in his name to The Wounded Warriors Project.
