In Loving Memory of Walter Clair Ehmsen Jr. February 25, 1946 – August 15, 2025 Walter Clair Ehmsen Jr., 79, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025. He was born in Du Bois, Pennsylvania, on February 25, 1946, to Walter and Jo Ann Ehmsen. As part of a military family, Walter spent his childhood moving frequently and living in many places across the country before settling in Illinois, where he graduated from high school in Olympia Fields, Illinois. From a young age, he showed a remarkable talent for athletics, especially baseball. His skill on the field earned him full scholarships to both Mesa Junior College and Colorado State College, where he shined as an outstanding baseball player. He graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. That same year, Walter answered a higher calling and joined the United States Marine Corps. For seven and a half years, he served his country with pride and dedication, serving at the rank of Captain before retiring from the Corps. After his military career, Walter worked in real estate and insurance, building strong relationships and helping others through his knowledge and work ethic. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing, hunting, and fishing, which brought him great joy throughout his life. Walt was also a man of faith and a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, where he found fellowship and community. In a recent visit with his brother Don, who was also an exceptional baseball player, Walt told his brother and his nephew, "Let's Play Ball." Walter cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his daughter, D'Andrea Ehmsen-Schnell, and his four beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Don Ehmsen, and sister, Muriel Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jo Ann Ehmsen, and by his sons, Casey Ehmsen and Bryan Ehmsen. Walter will be remembered for his strength of character, his service to his country, his love for the outdoors, and the devotion he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor and remember Walter. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
