Walter Roger Ganter, 84, of Eggertsville, NY, passed away at his home in February 2026. Known to family and friends as Wally, he was born April 9, 1941, in Buffalo, NY, to Walter E. and Catherine Ganter. A 1959 graduate of Amherst High School, Wally went on to become a successful entrepreneur, owning several area businesses, including Eveready Emergency Enclosures. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Wally was deeply committed to community service. He was a dedicated member of the Eggertsville Hose Company for more than 66 years, serving in roles including Communications Officer and Sergeant at Arms. An avid boater, he earned his Captain's license and was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for several years. Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lois (McAtee); his parents; and his sister, Margo. He is survived by his sister, Karen; his daughters, Lori Moses, Karen Ganter, and Gwyn Cich; his grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) and Erin Moses, and Chloe, Benjamin, and Jacob Cich (Molly); his great-grandchild, Kennedy Moses; and his step great-grandchild, Alexia Sams. A private graveside service will be held at Hartland Cemetery in Gasport, NY.
