I met Mr. Walter Henes for the first time in the summer of 1993 when I interviewed for the job of superintendent of CSU's Southwestern Colorado Research Center in Yellow Jacket. He was on the advisory committee of the research center and served in that capacity for several more years. He was a remarkable man: smart, witty, knowledgeable, and a pillar of the community. I enjoyed interacting with him as my advisor and mentor. I also regarded him as a role model and a friend. I will miss him. May he rest in peace.

Walt was an incredible human being! Really, really smart, very funny and someone who cared deeply about other people. To know him was to love him. He cared deeply about the community and the people who live here.
I sat in many board meetings with him always knowing that anything said by him would a combination of funny, important and backed up by great insight.
It was always a joy to watch him and Lynne interact with love and years of caring about each other.
Absolutely one of my favorite people!
