Honoring the Life and Legacy of
Deacon Walter Allen Kirton
"DAD," "Papa," "Walt," "Walt D," "Walt Baby Love"
Walter Allen Kirton, affectionately known by many names, including Dad, Papa, Walt, Walt D, and Walt Baby Love, was born on April 6, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Alvin and Beatrice Kirton. He peacefully transitioned from this life on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 4:44 p.m. in Oakley, California, surrounded by his loving family.
Walter moved from New Orleans to Oakland, California, during his early adolescence. He attended elementary and junior high school and graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland in 1974. In 2016, he proudly earned his Associate Degree in Heating and Air conditioning from Laney College. A man of strength, faith, and dedication, Walter devoted his life to providing for his family and serving the Lord.
Walter also served faithfully in the United States Army, an experience that reflected his lifelong strength, discipline, and love for his country.
Throughout his career, Walter worked in a variety of skilled trades. He served as a machinist with Owens Illinois and Eagle Packaging Company, and later as a plumber with Preferred Plumbing. Walter took pride in every task he did, whether at work, in the church, or at home, and was known for his diligence, discipline, and caring spirit.
Walter was united in holy matrimony to Charlotte Joann Kirton, whom he lovingly called "Punk," short for Punkin, on April 6, 1991, a date made even more special because it was also his birthday. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. Walter and Charlotte were devoted partners for five years before marriage and celebrated forty years together in total.
Walter accepted his calling to serve the Lord early in life. He became a Deacon at Acts Full Gospel Church in 1991 and later joined The Landing Place, a sister church of Acts Full Gospel, in 2025. He found immense joy in studying and listening to the Bible, exploring its stories, and sharing the Word of God with others.
In his leisure time, Walter loved cutting the grass, doing yard work, working around the house, and watching his beloved San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and SF Giants. He also enjoyed jazz music, and Gospel music. A few of his favorite songs were, Revelation (Thandiswa Mazwai), and Praise Anthem (written and performed by Richard Smallwood). He loved watching Bible stories on TV as well as Animal Kingdom with his grandkids. His love for simple joys reflected his humble and steadfast spirit and his gratitude for God's everyday blessings.
Walter cherished spending time with his family during birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, holidays, and every celebration, his joy was found in togetherness with his family. Walter was truly a "ride or die" for his family, devoted, loyal, and always ready to show up when he was needed. His love was steady, his faith unshakable, and his presence a constant source of strength and comfort.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Charlotte Kirton; his beloved children, Assistant Nurse Manager Estella "Shalogn, "BB" Bolden (Regg), CC II Specialist VaRhonda "Davion 'Sun Princess'" Williams, and Lieutenant Colonel David Zamon "Zim" Williams, Jr., Ph.D., his treasured grandchildren, Kiarah "Keyhoe" Williams (Malik "Young Man", "Lik"), Cameron (Cam Shot) Depew, Kailee "Kaijo" Depew, Trinity "Tri-ni-ty" Bolden, Cayden "Butter" Bolden, Earnest "EJ", "Road Dog" Sanford, David Zamon "GS" Williams III, and Sydney Joy Williams.
He is also survived by two brothers; Irvin (Big Bro) and Jeffrey Kirton (Little Bro) (Jamar) and one sister, Jacki Kirton Simpson; his sisters-in-law Lolita "Sis" Jackson and Lou Ella "Kitty" Taylor; brothers-in-law Lewis Jackson and Michael Davis; his Aunt Emily; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Walter's legacy is one of love, faith, and service. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal friend, and a man whose heart for God guided his every step.
"His lord said unto him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.'"
Matthew 25:23 (KJV)
