Walter McCaughna Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herman-Taylor Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Nov. 14, 2023.
Walter S. McCaughna, age 79, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Walter was born on July, 9 1944 to Walter and Rosemary (Killen) McCaughna in Brooklyn, NY.
A graduate of Indianapolis Cathedral High School class of 1967, Walter had an insatiable curiosity that made him a lifelong learner. This passion translated into his love for travel. He delighted in visiting prominent historical sites such as Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, and North Church. Fantasy football was not just a hobby but a passion for Walter, and he was renowned for his strategic thinking. He also relished playing cards, particularly Sheepshead. His supportive nature shone brightest in his love for family, always being there for them in times of need. He was known for his supportive nature and loving heart. A man of thoughtfulness and deep affection for his family and his dog Cracker, Walter left an indelible imprint on the hearts of those who were fortunate to cross his path.
Walter brought the same dedication and commitment he had for his family to his career. He served as a Laboratory Technician at Biron Paper Mill for over 21 years, retiring in 2008. His integrity and diligent work ethic earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues. Outside of work, Walter was an active member of the Elks Club for 32 years and held the trustee position for five and a half years, a testament to his leadership and commitment to service.
Walter is survived by his sister-in-law Maureen McCaughna; cousin Barbara; and lifelong special friends Paul Field and Bonita Macedon.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother James McCaughna; and his beloved dog Cracker.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials sent to the Wood County Humane Society.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Fr. Weller will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Cross and St. Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN at a later date. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. A memorial service and celebration of life will also be held in Indianapolis at a future date.
Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
