Walter McGlothin, a lifelong farmer known for his dedication to his craft and the community, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, in Olympia, Kentucky, where he was born on July 4, 1931, to the late William and Mary McCarty McGlothin.

Walter had a deep connection to the land, which he expressed through his successful farming career. He sold fresh vegetables at the local farmers market, embodying the spirit of community and fostering connections with customers who appreciated his dedication to quality and sustainability. His love for nature extended beyond farming; he also enjoyed hunting for Ginseng.

In addition to his agricultural pursuits, Walter was a talented musician who loved singing and playing guitar. Music was an integral part of his life, providing joy not only to him but also to those who had the pleasure of hearing him perform.

Walter proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he demonstrated remarkable bravery and unwavering commitment to his country. His military service was a testament to his strong character and dedication.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law, Laverne Deim (John), three brothers, Eugene, Bill, and Woodrow McGlothin, as well as six sisters, Clista Hatton, Nevada Bell, Marcha Highley, Elsie Lyons, Rita Crouch, and Patricia Moody. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Moore McGlothin, one son, Walter "Wayne" McGlothin of Olympia, Kentucky; two daughters, Deborah Kaye Osborne (Robert) of Lake Butler, Florida, and Kathy Congleton (John) of Richmond, Kentucky; and a step-daughter, Joan Norris of Lexington, Kentucky, nine grandchildren: Andy Fritz (Ashley), Leslie Hensley (Joey), Kristen McGlothin (Charlie), Shane Goldie (Katie), Dana and Angie Osborne, and Jordan, Madison, and Jayden Congleton. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and special friends Pauline Kesler (Chuck). 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Rev. Lowell Rice officiating. 

Burial along with military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 22 at the Oldfield Cemetery in Olympia. 

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Tuesday. 

Serving as pallbearers are, Charlie Webb, Jayden and John Congleton, Kelly Moody, Timmy and Billy Coyle. 

Honorary pallbearers include Chuck Kesler, Joe Karrick, Charles Whittington and Jimmy Thompson. 

Contributions are suggested to the Owingsville First Church of God, UK St. Claire Hospice and an animal shelter of your choice.
