Walter Jerome Mooney

Walter Jerome Mooney, 91, passed away on February 22, 2026 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born in the Bronx, New York City, New York on June 25, 1934, the first son of Lydia Cora (nee Otto) and Walter Jerome Mooney Sr.

Walter moved with his parents to Berrien Co, Michigan when he was 15 years old. He graduated from New Troy High School in 1952. Walter married Geraldine Anderson in Buchanan, Michigan on March 12, 1955. In 2025 they celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary. He lived for over 60 years with his wife in Niles, Michigan. Walter was living in St. Petersburg, Florida at the time of his death.

After working at Studebaker and Clark Equipment, Walter became a tool and die maker and shop manager. He worked for Advance Engineering, Capital Technologies, United Tool and Engineering, and X-Cell Steel Fabricating. He enjoyed his pet dogs, bow hunting, trap shooting, bowling, golfing, and playing Tri-Ominos with his family.

Walter is survived by four children Michael (Sandra) Mooney of Holland, Michigan, Paul (Desiree) of Bridgman, Michigan, Katherine (Erick) Grana of Odessa, Florida and Susan (Philip) Eaton of St. Petersburg, Florida; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Lausch and Patricia Whitt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, parents, and siblings, Evelyn Mooney and Thomas Mooney.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles, Michigan.
