Walter Wayne Mortensen

Walter "Wayne" Mortensen, 92, died peacefully at Glendale Home on September 13, 2025.

He was born in Atlantic, Iowa to Hans and Esther Mortensen. The family later moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He earned a history degree from Yale University.

In 1960, he met Emma and they were married the following year. They lived in Louisville, Kentucky, until 1967 when they moved to Scotia.

Wayne was a tax compliance accountant with General Electric for many years.

Wayne and Emma kept in touch with many friends they met through church activities, square dancing, bridge playing and Union College hockey. Wayne was a long-time member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Frances, Alice, and John Paul. His wife Emma passed away in 2023, and his daughter Nancy Lang passed away in 2016. He is survived by his son Mark (Joneen) Mortensen, son-in-law Mark Lang, and two grandchildren, Christian (Jennifer) Mortensen and Jamie Mortensen.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 18 at 11:00 at Calvary OPC on Rugby Road in Schenectady. There will be a time for visitation at the church before the service, starting at 10:00 and a reception at the church following the service.
