Walter Moya Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 13, 2024.
De Moya, Walter Jr., 60, of Queens, passed away December 12, 2024. Walter was born in Santiago de Cuba and went to Spain as a boy of 5 years old, and then came to America at 7 years old. He struggled at first with the language, but then he did very well and became very proficient with English and reading that by the time he graduated from Immaculate Concepcion school he was able to read at college level. Then he went to Monsignor McClancy High School in Queens. While he was in high school he suffered a severe mental breakdown and he had to be hospitalized. As soon as he partially recovered he went to Aviation High School in Queens where he graduated in 1983. He had a lot of friends growing up, unfortunately he got sick as a teenager and his life took a different turn than we expected. But he always had a very strong and positive attitude. He made the best with what God had giving him. He had a strong love for music, particularly rock and roll. He loved sports and would always root for the home teams. He adored his family and wanted to spend most of his time with his family eating good meals and having an occasional beer. He had a love of people and was very generous and giving, and enjoyed being in others' company. He will be dearly missed. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 14th, 9:30 am at St. Pius X RC Church, Plainview. Entombment following at St. Michael's Cemetery, Astoria.
