Walter Nicholas Neborsky, Jr., 68, died peacefully at his home on January 8, 2026.

Born November 29, 1957, in Willimantic, CT, he was the son of the late Walter and Caroline Elizabeth (Watras) Neborsky. He grew up in Scotland, CT, and graduated from Parish Hill High School in 1975. In 2003, he married Ruth (Georges), with whom he shared more than 23 years together.

Walt was a highly skilled mechanic and auto body specialist. At age 25, he founded Walt's Auto Body in Mansfield, CT, where he served the community for decades, restoring antique vehicles, building Jeeps and dune buggies, and earning numerous awards for his work. The Shop was also a gathering place for friends and storytelling.

An avid collector, Walt enjoyed auctions, swap meets, and snowmobiling with family and friends. He was well known for his passion for off-road Jeep racing, demolition derbies, and hill climbs, where his determination, competitive spirit, and skill earned him widespread respect. He was often described as a legend.

Above all, Walt cherished time with his grandchildren and loved sharing his passion for anything with an engine.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Victory, VT; his children, Eric Neborsky of Mansfield, CT, and Sharon Torello and husband, Jeff of Deep River, CT; stepchildren, David Sprague and wife, Sarah, Andrew John Marden and wife, Tara, Claire Marden, and Anthony Schifone and wife, Mary; four brothers, Donald, Joseph, Thomas, and John; his sister, Nancy Pickering; eight grandchildren, with a ninth expected; and his beloved dog, Mutley. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Neborsky.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private in the spring at Masten Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life.
