Walter A. "Jack" Pond Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on July 29, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia, Jack led a life marked by dedication to family, service to country, and professional achievement. A proud graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in business education, he was an active member of the Virginia Tech Cadet Corps and participated in ROTC before serving in the Naval Reserves. Jack built a distinguished career in the building materials industry. He retired as Vice President of Sales & Marketing from UC Industries, a former joint venture company of U.S. Gypsum Co., where his leadership and strategic insight left a lasting impact. He was married for 53 years to his first wife, Barbara VanDenburgh, mother of his four children, until her passing. He was separated from his wife, Margaret Chapman. Jack is lovingly remembered by his children: daughter Anne P. Chamberlin and her husband Robert "Chip" Chamberlin; daughter Elizabeth P. Rowan and her husband Richard Rowan Jr.; and son William C. Pond and his wife Marie Pond. He was predeceased by his son, Walter A. Pond III. He took great pride in his grandchildren: Justin Chamberlin (Kelly), Catherine Cordero (Daniel), Ingrid Pond, Carrie Mayer (Steven), Wyatt Pond, and Emily Rowan. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Kayla Chamberlin, Dylan Chamberlin, Jack Cordero, Lucy Cordero, and Claire Cordero. Outside of work and family life, Jack was an avid Hokie fan, enjoyed playing golf, and had a lifelong fondness for western movies-pastimes that brought him joy and relaxation throughout the years. May the memory of Walter A. "Jack" Pond Jr. bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well lived.
