Walter Schott was born to Gottlieb and Rosina (Bauer) Schott on July 21, 1934, on a farm south of Long Lake, SD, where he attended rural school. In 1945, they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where he graduated from Central High in 1953. Upon graduation, Walter went to work for Fairmont Foods Co.
In 1957, he was drafted into the army and stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado. From there, he was then sent to Ft. Belvoir in Virginia to work as an engineer. While in Virginia, he met Phyllis Sarver. They were married on July 5, 1958, in Berlin, Pennsylvania.
In 1960, they moved back to Aberdeen, SD and he went back to work for Fairmont, and he also started a home delivery milk service, which lasted over 3 decades. During that time, he met many wonderful people and many long-lasting friends. Walter and Phyllis stayed busy raising black angus cattle and bees, which began with one hive in 1976 and accumulated up to 250 hives. Walter was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for over 50 years where he was a financial secretary and deacon.
Walter enjoyed being outside, whether he was gardening, fishing, or hunting. He was an avid outdoorsman and will be fondly remembered by his loving family.
Grateful for having shared Walter's life are his wife, Phyllis (Sarver) Schott; children, Jane (Jake) Schafer, Walt (Joni) Schott, Michael Schott, and Patty (Pat) Fauth; grandchildren, Jacob (Rachel) Schafer, Dylan (Hannah) Hilfer-Schafer, Cale (Linsey) Schafer, Wyatt Schafer, Alex Schott, Abigail Schott, Sarah Schott, Tyler (Ariel) Schott, Rachel (Luke) Schmidt, Lauren (Evan) Morgan, and Hannah Fauth; great grandchildren, Winston and Claire Schafer, Memphis, Noah, Isabella, and Lyric Schott, Brooklyn Schott, and Khloe and Cooper Schmidt; and siblings, Betty Suedmeier and Gladys Hutson.
