Walter Ray "Butch" Schubert went home to be with his Heavenly Father on the morning of October 2, 2025; following his battle with cancer.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born January 18, 1946; he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathy; father, Glen (Verna) Schubert; half-sister Yvonne McDonald; mother, Esteen Sparkman; and grandmother, Lillian Lunsford.
He is survived by his son, James "Jimmy" Schubert; daughter, Toni (Doug) Schubert Lawson; grandsons, Brandon (Kira) Lawson, Douglas "Drew" (Jessica) Lawson; great-grandkids, Laiken, Isaak, Taylin, Zaylee, Cali, Memphis, Logan, & Connor. He also leaves behind his cherished friend, Brenda Star; who took care of him and transported him to doctor and hospital visits. In addition, Butch had some great neighbors, Earl and Jennifer; who also helped with transportation to the doctor's offices and also looked after him daily.
An avid golfer, Butch worked for twenty years at the Dandridge Golf Course. Golf was his life-long sport; and he had several golfer friends who meant the world to him; including Leamon Callahan. Butch owned Schubert Texaco on North Broadway in Knoxville from the 1980s to the mid-1990s. His regular clients included local television stations, the US Post Office, and St. Mary's Hospital to name a few. His customers loved him.
A service to celebrate his life will take place at Hopewell Presbyterian Church of Dandridge at 1PM, Monday, October 6, 2025. The family will receive friends from noon to 1PM, prior to the service; with burial following in the church cemetery.
In accordance with his wishes, the family asks that - in lieu of flowers - memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital in honor of his daughter, Toni Schubert Lawson. (ALSAC / St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude’s Place - Memphis, Tennessee 38105)
