Walter Robert Strugala, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Walt was born in Colver, Pennsylvania to the late Walter and Mary Ann Strugala. In 1967, he and his high school sweetheart, Nancy, moved to Ohio to begin their life together and raise a family. Walt worked as a dedicated Pipe Fitter and proud member of Local 219.
Walt was known for his big heart, warm smile, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He was active in the Sokol Club in Barberton and cherished being part of the community. A true sports enthusiast, he shared his love of athletics with his daughters and never lost his lifelong passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Walt was also an avid golfer, bowler, and hunter. His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted longtime member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. Above all, Walt's greatest joy was his family.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy; daughters Jennifer (Kenn) Heard, Kristi Strugala (Mark Bohall), Renee (Josh) Carey, and Robyn (Chris) Tepus; grandchildren Scotty (Ashley) Lees, Maryssa Heard, Tyler & Khloey Gould, Jayden Carey, and Trinity & Kyler Tepus; great-granddaughter Adalynn Lees; siblings Susan (Wayne) Nazarak, Jeannie (Eugene) Lanzendorfer, and Vincent (Pam) Strugala; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 4-7 PM at Anthony Funeral Homes - Green Chapel, 4178 Massillon Road in Green (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads, entrance off Steese). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 4019 Manchester Road in Akron.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Local 219 Scholarship Fund, 1655 Brittain Rd., Akron, Ohio 44310, so that Walt's legacy of hard work and generosity may continue to support future generations.
