Walter L. Tarnowski

Walter L. Tarnowski, 103, of Clifton passed away on August 29, 2024. Born and raised in Garfield, Walter moved to Clifton in 1958 and lived there ever since. A US Army veteran of WWII, he served under General Patton in Europe and was at the liberation of Buchenwald. Walter served on the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was the owner/operator of a home building firm, Tarnowski and Zak, who built many homes in Clifton and along the Jersey Shore. He was a past member of the Athenia Veterans Post, Clifton, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Beloved husband of the late Genevieve, who passed away in 2015. Cherished father of Eugene and his wife Barbara of Barnegat, Arlene Tarnowski of Clifton, and Arthur and his wife JoAnn, also of Barnegat. Cherished grandfather of 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Stanley Tarnowski of Clifton.
Visiting Tuesday 3-7PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Funeral Wednesday, 8:45AM at the funeral home and 10AM at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, Clifton. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack.
