Walter Wilkerson Obituary
Walter T. Wilkerson, age 90, of Whitmire, SC, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He has been married to his devoted wife, Elaine Wilkerson for the past 67 years.
He was born in Newberry, SC and was a son of Thomas Mitchell and Rachel Blanken Wilkerson. He graduated from Whitmire High School Class of ’54. Mr. Wilkerson was a member of the Whitmire Presbyterian Church and the South Carolina National Guard. He was an avid lover of baseball, especially the SC Gamecocks. His two favorite places in the world were 172 Wilkerson Road and Daytona Beach, FL. He is remembered for his fighting spirit, quick wit, relentless work ethic, and always putting his family first.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his son, Thomas Scott Wilkerson (Tina); his daughter, Lori McConnell (George); a sister-in-law, Joyce Wilkerson; grandchildren, Alexandra Simpson (Robert) and Marylane Wilkerson (Parker); great-grandchildren, Livie Grey Simpson and Rhys Simpson; and many nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Wilkerson, Lawrence Wilkerson, Kenneth Wilkerson and Floyd Wilkerson.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at the Whitmire Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire.
