Charles E. Wallen, age 98, widower of Rachel Peay Wallen his wife of 67 years, passed away, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Newberry Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Blackwater, Virginia on May 25, 1927 and was the son of the late Fred Wallen and Ethel Willis Wallen. Charles was a retired textile employee of JP Stevens after 46 years, a member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church, a proud WWII US Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Eli Farrah Post #70.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Jo Nell Wallen of Whitmire.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Charles is preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Vernon Wallen; his sisters, Dorothy Mae Corder and Juanita Ruth Corder.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Whitmire with Rev. William Yon officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at Whitmire Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jaden Clark, Raymond Haggerty, Kyle Owens, Don Lacey, Jeremy Nichols, Wayne Langston, honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post #70.
Please help honor this WWII Veteran by lining Main Street in Whitmire to salute his funeral procession which will be lead by the Patriot Guard Riders to the cemetery.
