Walter Wimsett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weeks' Dryer Mortuary - Tacoma on Sep. 14, 2025.
If you were lucky enough to know Walter (Walt) Wimsett, you know that he loved people. He loved to sit down over coffee and just talk. You might discuss the latest sports or the world news. But he'd love to spend time talking with you and sharing the latest news together. He was one of a kind and we who loved him feel lucky to have had him in our lives.

Walt was born August 29, 1933, a few minutes before his younger twin brother, Wayne. He and Wayne were the 10th and 11th children of the Wimsett family. The Wimsett boys grew up on the farm near Scottland, Illinois. Their family farm encompassed both Illinois and Indiana. He loved to share fun stories of life growing up on that farm, feeding the cows, playing basketball, and living in small town America.

In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. This began a 26-year career that brought him around the globe. When he retired from the military, he went to work for the United States Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Center in Federal Way, Washington. After two long careers, he was happy to retire in 2000.

Walt loved being a father and grandfather and modeled hard work, discipline, and good humor. He loved watching sports, a good book, a cup of coffee and a good chat.

Walter is survived by his wife, U Nam (Genie), his children Winnie and Kevin, his grandchildren, Jason, Bryan, David, Truman, Sarah and his great grandson Isaiah along with numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones. We loved him dearly and know he is at peace reunited once again with his daughter Tina and family and loved ones in heaven.
