Walterio Martinez Nunez

Walterio Martinez Nunez, 88, of Greenwood, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 25, 1937, in Mexico, Walterio was the beloved son of the late Cecilio Martinez and Candelaria Martinez Nunez. As the eldest and only son among six children, he took on the responsibility of caring for his mother and five younger sisters from a very young age - a role he fulfilled with unwavering dedication and strength. Walterio was a man of deep faith, strong values, and tireless work ethic. He worked as an accountant at Supermayoreo in Mexico City for over 22 years. In 1992, he and his family moved to Greenwood, Delaware, where he continued to provide for them by working as a lineman at Perdue Farms in Milford for more than 15 years. He had a passion for soccer and boxing, and found joy in watching matches with his family. A longtime member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, Walterio's faith was central to his life and guided him through all seasons. Above all, Walterio was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maria Ubaldina Galvan Alvarez. Together, they raised four sons and built a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family values. Walterio cherished time with his children and grandchildren and never wavered in his role as a supportive, loving patriarch. He is survived by his wife, Maria; his four sons: Ricardo Martinez (Maricela), Alejandro Martinez (Martha), Edgar Martinez (Abigail), and Cesar Martinez (Jazmin); his nine grandchildren: Alex, Cecilio, Branco, Giovanni, Valentino, Luciano, Renata, Natalie, and Sophie; and his five sisters: Irma, Maria, Alicia, Oralia, Raquel Martinez and Sabino Escobar. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM. Interment will be private.
