Wanda Peeler Churchwell, 75, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on October 21, 2025. She was born on July 14, 1950, in Hohenwald to the late J.W. Peeler and Willodean Wisdom Peeler.
Mrs. Churchwell was a member of Blondy Church of God. She worked as a 911 operator for 27 years. Before the days of pagers and radios, she worked with the Ladies Auxiliary and Civil Defense, helping coordinate fire calls by using a phone tree to alert volunteer firefighters to respond.
Wanda was active in numerous community efforts, including Relay For Life and local fundraisers. Family members remembered her involvement in the community "Hee Haw" skits that raised money for cancer organizations and other causes.
Music played a big role in her life. She played piano for The Revelers, performed country music for ten years, and spent the last fifteen years with the Southern Gospel group The Holley Family. She also sang in the choir at Blondy Church of God and joined the Widowers Group at the church.
She is survived by her children, Jerry (Connie) Churchwell, Barry (Loreita) Churchwell, and Kim (Billy) Jackson; nine grandchildren, Bessie (Bill) Veach, Allison and Clayton Jackson, Autumn, Max, and Beau Churchwell, Morgan (Devon) Brewer, Hayden (Janna) Harper, and Ian (Ella) Harper; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend and sidekick since age 12, Janice Bridges.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Glen Churchwell and brother David Peeler.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday evening, October 23, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 24, at 11:00 AM, with Marcus Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memorial Gardens.
