Wanda L Clevenger

Wanda Clevenger, 84, of Newark, DE passed away on November 30, 2023.
Wanda was born on June 6, 1939, the youngest of two daughters, to Sidney N. Worley and Bess (née Snyder) in Bluefield, West Virginia.
She met the love of her life, Howard Clevenger, in the fall of 1955. On May 9, 1956, she was married to Howard and on April 7, 1957, they welcomed their first child, Curtis N. Clevenger, also born in Bluefield, WV. After Howard had secured permanent employment with Delaware Power & Light (now known as Delmarva Power & Light), a few months later, he moved his new bride and newborn son to Newark, DE. On April 1, 1964, they welcomed their daughter, Carla. On July 21, 1972, they welcomed their son Joel into the fold. Wanda was a full-time homemaker for most of her adult life, but during the mid-1980s, she enjoyed doing part time modeling work with Boscov's and Macy's after attending the Barbizon School of Modeling.
Wanda was always a voracious reader and could usually be found with a book in her hands whenever she had the opportunity. She also spent many hours in her backyard tending to her garden. Upon Howard's retirement from Delmarva Power & Light Company in 1995, they began discovering the beauty of this great land in their motor home, in particular the Southwestern U.S., spending visits for months at a time in New Mexico and/or Arizona.
Wanda was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, and her older sister Ruth Anne.
She is survived by her three children: son Curtis Clevenger and wife Anne, daughter Carla Slank (née Clevenger) and husband John J. Slank III and son Joel Clevenger, seven grandchildren: Brent Rohm and wife Valerie, Rachel Beaston (nee Clevenger) and husband Andy, Kyle Clevenger and wife Erin, John J. Slank IV and wife Haley, Colin J. Slank and wife Renee, Owen M. Slank and Aiden Clevenger and seven great grandchildren: Landen Beaston, Gianna Rohm, Colden Beaston, Cora Clevenger, Isla Clevenger, Asher Slank and Savannah Slank.
A private service will be held for the family after the holiday season at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, where Wanda's remains will be interred alongside her husband of 66 years and U.S. Army veteran Howard Clevenger.
