Wanda Laverne Hawn, 1938 - 2025

Wanda Laverne Hawn passed away peacefully in Bakersfield, CA on November 15, 2025 at the age of 87. At her passing, Wanda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Wanda dedicated her life to her family and her stained glass artwork. She had an absolute faith in God and loved attending her church (The Oaks Church in Bakersfield, CA.)

Wanda was born on January 26, 1938 in Tehachapi, to Lee and Jewel Peters. She loved telling the story of her birthday when her father had to work his shift at Monolith Portland Cement and was unaware his wife was giving birth. When he found out he went to Tehachapi Hospital to see his wife and new baby only to find out the nurses would not let him in since visiting hours had passed. Like any dad would do, he scaled the wall outside the hospital and entered into his wife's room through a window. That is how she first got to meet her dad. She was the youngest of five children. She was raised in Tehachapi and graduated from Tehachapi High School in 1956.

Wanda worked as a beautician in Tehachapi for over fifty years. She owned her own shop for some time and also worked for other shop owners. She enjoyed doing the hair of her best friends for so many years. She also gave every single family member perms during the 70's and 80's. There are photos to prove this.

In the mid-2000s, Wanda retired and moved to Bakersfield, CA. Here she focused on her stained glass artwork which would later turn into making glass ants by the thousands. She came to be known as the Ant lady of Bakersfield. In October 2007, she became a Gold Star grandmother when she lost her grandson, Wayne Geiger, during combat in Baghdad, Iraq. This loss stayed with her for the rest of her life.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Jewel Peters; siblings, Jesse Peters, Joy (Austin) Peters, Donald Peters, Kenneth Peters and Grandson Wayne Geiger (KIA October 18, 2007 Baghdad, Iraq.) She is survived by her three children; daughter Lyn Fasulo and her husband Ken of Bakersfield, daughter Kim Geiger and her husband Randy of Lone Pine, and her son Kevin (KC) Hawn and his wife Jamie of Castaic. Wanda is also survived by her grandchildren; Ryan Decker of Bakersfield, Alex Nixon and her husband Brysen of Bakersfield, Jesseca Tsosie of Lone Pine, Ashley Bjorklund and her husband Tyler of Smithfield, Utah, Kyle Hawn of Richardson, Texas and Tyler Hawn of Castaic. Wanda also has seven great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at The Oaks Community Church (10200 Campus Park Drive) in Bakersfield on January 9th at 1 pm.
