Wanda Faye Hughes, 79, beloved wife of Lawrence David Hughes, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025. Born in Lexington, KY, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Ida Hazel Johnson Williams.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Wanda spent her life caring deeply for her family and those she loved. Together with her husband, she helped build and manage a successful thoroughbred racing business at L.D. Hughes Racing Stables and Lame Leg Farm, a partnership they shared for many years.

Wanda was a woman of many talents and interests. An avid reader with a keen interest in homeopathic medicine, she also found joy in gardening and nurturing the beauty around her. A gifted artist, she expressed her creativity through painting, drawing, sewing, and knitting, leaving behind cherished works that reflected her spirit and love of life.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence David Hughes; her daughter, Valenda Kay (Hughes) Taylor; her granddaughter, Cassandra "Casey" Taylor; and Cassandra's father, Ken Taylor. Truly accepting of all people, Wanda also opened her heart to many others whom she considered as her own children and loved as family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alan Williams and Timothy Williams.

Services will be held privately.
