Susie was born on August 11, 1957, to Willie and Hazel Lawrence in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, in Shreveport.

Susie was a resident of Shreveport and co-owner of Jelks Coffee Company. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished her close bonds with her family and friends. Susie’s legacy of love will continue through the lives of her family.

Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Hazel Lawrence; brothers, Jimmy Lawrence, and Travis “Buster” Lawrence. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 42 years, Harvey Jelks; sons, Michael Meshell and wife Valerie, and Danny Meshell; stepson, Anthony Lubcker and wife, Cathrine; grand-children, Landon Meshell, Macie Meshell, and Collins Meshell; sisters, Patsy Sonnier, Betty Strickland, Hattie Lawrence; and brother, Johnny Lawrence.

Honoring Susie as pallbearers will be Michael Meshell, Danny Meshell, John Ebarb, Brian Turner, Joey Presley, and Ashton Meek. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Landon Meshell.

Susie will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we find peace in knowing that she is healed and with her Lord and Savior, as well as other family members, in eternal love and peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or the American Cancer Society.
