Wanda Jean Johns

Wanda Jean Johns, age 76, of West Frankfort, IL, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 at her residence.
She was born on November 19, 1948 in Sesser, IL, to Farrell and Geneva (Tucker) Curry. She married Robert Gary Johns on September 11, 2002 and he preceded her in death on November 6, 2016.
After high school, Wanda continued her education through SIU and NIU, earning her Master's degree in Special Education. Teaching came naturally to Wanda, and during her college years she would tutor children with special needs. She loved education and continued course work even after her Master's degree. She was just shy of a doctoral degree before she stopped taking courses.
Wanda worked for the Williamson County Special Education office for 33 years as a Special Education teacher and administrator. After her retirement, she went to work for the Metropolis School District.
In her spare time, Wanda enjoyed crafty pastimes including quilting, coloring with gel pens and ink painting. Wanda was a member of Soul's Harbor House of Prayer Church.
She is survived by her sisters, Leatta (Wayne) Baney of West Frankfort and Naomi (Richard) Edmonds of Nashville, IL; step-sister, Sherilyn Baney of West Frankfort; nieces, Vicki Spiller and Teneva "Baby" Johnston, among many other nieces and nephews cousins, and other relatives; her beloved dog, Sparky; her Soul's Harbor church family; and many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Debra Curry; and nephew, Calvin Eugene Harvey.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Stone Funeral Home, 1201 East Poplar Street, West Frankfort, IL.
The family will hold a time a visitation at Soul's Harbor House of Prayer Church, located at 10468 Highway 149, West Frankfort, IL, on Sunday, August 31, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Following the time of visitation, the memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Alan Murphy and Reverend Naomi Edmonds presiding.
For those who prefer, the family has requested memorial contributions be directed to "Soul's Harbor House of Prayer." Contribution envelopes will be available at the church or may be mailed c/o Stone Funeral Home, 1201 East Poplar Street, West Frankfort, IL 62896.
