Funeral Services at the Church of Christ, Walters, OK, Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., Phillip Johnson officiating with song leading and remarks by Gregory Johnson under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.
Wanda Louise (Moon) Johnson was born to Clarence Albert and Essie Lee (Wilson) Moon on April 14, 1940 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Plano, TX on July 4, 2024 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 20 days.
Wanda grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS. As a young adult she worked at Haggars and then Lone Star Gas. She married Larry Lloyd Johnson on November 26, 1970 at the Church of Christ in Walters and to the union 2 sons, Gregory and Phillip were born. She quit Lone Star Gas to raise her sons, but when they were in junior high, she began working for the pre-school at the Methodist Church and eventually just kept kids at her home. She later worked for ASCOG at the Nutrition Center and all the while helped Larry with the farming and cattle.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, she loved going to church and attended faithfully. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed time at the lake and loved being on the go rather than sitting around the house, including trips to thrift stores to find bargains. She loved the Wichita Mountains and Sultan Park in Walters. She loved the OU sports teams and the OKC Thunder. Wanda collected dolls, she enjoyed making blankets for family and friends, and was a great cook.
Larry and Wanda became bonus parents and grandparents to many family members and kids from her preschool program and kids she kept while baby sitting who are adults now and share a bond even to this day, as well as friends of Gregory and Phillip throughout the years. She had a major impact and influence on their lives and everyone else. She loved her family and friends deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Johnson in 2021; her parents, Clarence and Essie Moon; 2 brothers, Sonny Moon and George Moon; and 2 sisters, Betty Mallow and infant sister, Laquita Moon.
Wanda is survived by 2 sons, Gregory Johnson of Temple, and Phillip Johnson and wife Shannon of Norman, OK; a granddaughter, Jalen Brock and husband Jamison; 2 brothers, L.D. Moon of Geronimo, OK, Robert and Suzanne Moon of Carrollton, TX; a sister, Carol and Larry Thompson of Ft. Worth, TX; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Sherry Johnson of Houston, TX, Glen Mallow of Walters, Jean Moon of Arlington, TX and Janeice Moon of Walters; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
