Wanda L. Smith

Wanda L. (Mrs. Ezra) Smith, age 85, of Washington, Iowa died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Halcyon House in Washington following a lengthy illness. Celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. General calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Online condolences may be sent for Wanda's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com Wanda was born July 31, 1926 in Bristow, Oklahoma the daughter of Sherman E. and Lila (King) Graham. She attended school in Oklahoma and Texas. Wanda served in the Woman's Army Corp during World War II. On March 11, 1958 she was united in marriage to Ezra Smith. Wanda lived all of her married life north of Washington where she was a homemaker and took pride in raising her children and caring for them. She attended the United Methodist Church in Washington and was involved in politics, especially the local Democratic Party. She enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona with her husband. She is survived eight children including Linda Godfrey and husband Gary of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Carol Alber and husband Michael of North Liberty, Iowa; Rene' Smith of Paducah, Kentucky; Lisa Carr and husband Mike of Washington, Iowa; Ezra Jon Smith and wife Wendy of Washington, Iowa; Charles Jennings and wife Julie of North English, Iowa; Paul Smith of Washington, Iowa; Marcia Dautremont of Iowa City, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; brother Bill Graham of Hickory Hills, Illinois; sister Barbara Sanders of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and brother Gary Graham and wife Lucia of O'Fallon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003; one grandson, Justin Carr; and one sister-in-law, Jean Graham.
