Mrs. Wanda Elaine Welchel

Mrs. Wanda Elaine Welchel, born Wanda Elaine Furguson on October 13, 1953, in Henderson, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in her hometown of Henderson at the age of 72. A proud graduate of West Rusk High School, Wanda pursued her passion for helping others by studying nursing at Tyler Junior College. Her commitment to caring extended beyond her profession-she was always ready with a listening ear and a kind heart. Wanda shared a deep bond with her late husband, Ricky Welchel. Together they built a life centered on love and family. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Jason Welchel, and his wife Jessica; her grandchildren Jadyn Welchel, Jasmine "Peanut" Mericle, Tristan Welchel, and Jasmine Key; and her brother Rodger Furguson. Her memory will also be cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ricky; parents Elaine and Samuel Furguson; brothers Robert and Ottis Furguson; and sisters-in-law Betty and Carolyn Furguson. Affectionately known as "Nana" to her grandchildren, Wanda brought joy through her warmth and humor. She had a fondness for cows and a strong dislike for tomatoes. Her favorite pastimes included crossword puzzles, old movies, soap operas, and enjoying Wiener schnitzel. Known for telling jokes that made everyone laugh-often blushing afterward-she brought lightness wherever she went. A Memorial Gathering will be held on November 22, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 6876 State Hwy 323. May the memory of Mrs. Wanda Elaine Welchel bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
