Celebration of Life services for Wanda Wright, 91, of Chouteau, will be held on Thursday, January 27 at 2:00 PM at Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Services are under the care and direction of Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care in Pryor.
Wanda Jean Wright was born on December 29, 1930 in Beggs, Oklahoma to Tee and Ollie B. (Davis) Irby. She passed away on January 23, 2022 in Chouteau at the age of 91.
Wanda grew up and attended school in Sapulpa, graduating from Sapulpa High School. In her early years, Wanda worked as a cashier at Safeway in Sand Springs then later worked as a dispatcher and bookkeeper for her mom and stepdad at their business, Ament Trucking in Sapulpa.
In 1966, she married Albert Ray Wright in Ft. Smith and the two made their home in Chouteau. For the majority of her life, Wanda was a wife, mom, grandma and homemaker. She enjoyed camping and fishing on the river at Chouteau with her husband. She was a wonderful friend to everyone she met. She loved spending time with her family; they always had fun, playing family basketball games and all-night Yahtzee. She also enjoyed creating arts and crafts such as crocheting, sewing and painting. She was an avid yard sale attendee and loved gardening and playing Bingo. She has a fun and wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Wanda was an active member of the VFW in Pryor and also the Ladies Auxiliary where she served in several positions over the years.
She is survived by her four children, Alberta "Bert" Stewart of Pryor, Frances Mattox of Hinton, Melvin "Mel" Sutherland and wife Debra of Chouteau and Connie Hansen of Broken Arrow; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, 1 great-great-great granddaughter and sister, Linda Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; brother, Gordon Irby and adopted daughter, Dana Harrison.
