Warren Drake Cuddeback died Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Pompton Plains, NJ. He was 88. Warren was born on January 13, 1937, in Huguenot, NY. The only son of Frank Cuddeback & Helen Britting Cuddeback, he was 8-generations descended from Jacques Caudebec and Margaretta Provoost who settled Godefroy in the 17th century. In their youth, Warren and his lifelong friend Bob Florence rode their Triumph and Harley Davidson motorcycles "into the woods, chasing bears," in his words.
Warren earned an MS in sociology at SUNY New Paltz, a BS in agricultural economics at Cornell University, and an AAS degree in animal husbandry at SUNY Delhi. In the early 1960s, Warren served in the US Army in New Jersey and Oklahoma in a field artillery unit, and a further 6 years in the NY National Guard, attaining the rank of Corporal. In August 1969, Warren rode to the Woodstock concert site for half a day with Bob's brother Richard Florence riding on the back of the Triumph motorcycle. Warren served 17 years as a NYS parole officer at the Otisville Correctional Facility, and prior to that he taught social studies in Warwick High School for a short while. Warren was elected to the Port Jervis school board, and served four years as a councilman on the Deerpark Town Board, after campaigning in 1999 on a platform of running controlled, dignified and professional meetings. He lived nearly all his life on the family dairy farm on Galley Hill Road where he hosted skeet-shooting events and taught gun safety. Warren supported The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark, the American Civil Liberties Union and Amnesty International.
Warren is survived by his son Dan Woodford (Cassie) of Deposit, NY, and their children, and his nephew Mike Sanborn (Dolly), of Casselberry, FL, and their children, as well as cousins Joan Patterson Sheil and Sharon Ashworth Rice, Ruth Barron Shelley, and other woodpile relations in New York, Illinois and Florida. Warren was predeceased by his sister, June Cuddeback Leighton, in 1981, and cousins Shirley Ashworth Wilcox, Glenda Teabo-Sandoe, and Fred Barron. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Warren's memory may be made to The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark, 202 US-209, Port Jervis, NY 12771. Interment will be private in Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville beside his sister, parents, and grandparents. Arrangements are entrusted to the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY 12771. 845-856-5191. For more information, directions or to leave a condolence note to the family, please visit www.grayparkerfuneralhome.com.
