Warren Montgomery Obituary

Warren LeDoux Montgomery, District Attorney of Washington and St. Tammany Parishes, passed on November 10, 2023, at the age of 68. He was born May 25, 1955, to Levere Cooley Montgomery Jr. and his wife, Anne Warren. He was the third of six children. Warren attended Jesuit High School of New Orleans where he was heavily involved in Young Life ministries, which was an impactful part of his personal and faith journey. He remained involved through his college years. He attended college at LSU in Baton Rouge where he graduated with a degree in Economics followed by a Law Degree from LSU Law School. During his time in school, Warren explored Mexico and France, where he learned to speak fluent French and Spanish and developed a deep love for travel. Warren went on to work with the Reagan Campaign, staying in Washington D.C. for several years until he returned home to New Orleans to take a position as an Assistant US Attorney under John Volz. He met Valarie Hatfield through a Christian fellowship group, and they were married on March 2, 1985. They lived in New Orleans where they formed deep friendships with a community of believers who have remained some of their dearest friends through the years. Warren then took a position as the district representative for Bob Livingston. Following this, Warren served as Vice-President of the ICEE Corporation for many years. During this time he expanded the company and moved his family to Puerto Rico where they experienced many wonderful adventures. Upon moving back to Louisiana in 2001, Warren returned to the practice of law as a public and private Defense Attorney. He often took cases where the defendants spoke only in Spanish. After a great deal of consideration and prayer, he decided to run for District Attorney of Washington and St. Tammany Parishes in 2014, winning in a runoff. He spent the next 9 years of his life serving the public, working hard to reform the DA's office and restore the community's confidence in its leadership. Warren worked tirelessly with countless others to make St. Tammany and Washington Parishes safe and beautiful for future generations. He participated in many local and state organizations throughout his adult life, including as a long-term member of the Sugar Bowl Committee, Chairman of the Pastoral Council of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Board Member of the Team 5:18 Prison Ministry, Northshore Chairman of the French American Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Young Presidents Organization, and as a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Since 2015, Warren served on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana District Attorney's Association. In 2020 he was chosen to serve on the Louisiana Governor's Drug Policy Board. Warren and Valarie raised four children and later adopted their fifth to complete their family. They traveled the world together, and enjoyed countless memorable trips. He and Valarie invested a lot of time in family. Throughout his career, he never forgot what is truly important in life: faith, and family. He loved and lived life to the fullest. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Valarie, and his five children- Daniel and wife Richelle, Alison, Jennifer, Kirstie, and Elijah. He is also survived by three grandchildren, his father, Levere Jr., his brother Levere III, and sisters Leanne, Margaret "Margee", Kären, and Elizabeth "Beth". We are certain he was greeted by a huge welcoming party, including his mother, Anne, in true Louisiana style in Heaven. Went to CBS and Jesuit with Warren. He was always a good natured and competitive boy. Heard him speak at a Christian Legal Society luncheon. Held the interest of every listener.
He'll be missed by those that encountered him.

Growing up, I knew Warren Montgomery and the entire Montgomery Family (his parents and sibling). We shared a love of horses. My family had a stables and the Montgomerys rented a stall from us for their sweet horse, Rebel. I was so proud of Warren and all he accomplished to improve his corner of the world. The bio I heard on one of the television stations recently could have been the bio for ANY of the Montgomery clan: kind, intelligent, hard-working, honest, a person of integrity, etc. My condolences to the entire Montgomery family. Truly, my heart hurts along with each of you. Kerry Ermon (daughter of Angus and Shirley Eason)

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Montgomery sure gave it a hard fight.
I will never forget, while working at the DA´s office, Mr. Montgomery took care of me when my husband was dying of cancer. What a kind and compassionate man. God bless...
